Keep in mind while bike helmet shopping that the right helmet will be certified by one of the following organizations: Snell, ASTM/SEI or CPSC. The Snell Memorial Foundation is dedicated to promoting research on bike helmet safety. The ASTM/SEI (American Society for Testing and Materials/Safety Equipment Institute) dictates the obligatory criteria that a helmet must meet in order to be considered protective equipment rather than apparel.
